Under the covers at Waihopai

By Richard Long On March 27, 2010 · 3 Comments · In Uncategorized

No doubt you’ve seen these three men in the news at least once in the last two years.

Waihopai1

They were the men who broke into the Waihopai spy base and slashed the white dome covering under the cloak of darkness, back in 2008. Lately they’ve been back in the news as they have just had their day in court.

They were found not-guilty by a Wellington jury after an 8 day trial. Obviously the government is spewing. John Key and Simon Power have both proposed the idea of a law change to make sure that no one can use the “greater good” defense ever again. The jury and the “Waihopai three” have both been slandered in the mainstream media, by the likes of Paul (my daughters a P-fry but look at you) Holmes, and Kerre (I’m the biggest slut on television, please let me give you the clap) Woodham.

According to some articles claiming to represent public opinion the ordinary average kiwi is also pissed off that taxpayer’s money has been wasted here, and supposedly other kiwis have expressed the opinion that “we have got to have trust in our government for some things.” (Here)

An American “Expert” has also been rolled in to claim that this act was “akin to helping Al-Qaeda and the Taleban.” (Find this spew Here)

Here is the self proclaimed expert himself.

Waihopai2

So MMP has rolled in its own self proclaimed expert to get to the bottom of what is going on here.

Firstly let’s look at the spy base.

Built in 1989, it is part of a US global spy network called Echelon. There are bases in Australia, Britain, Canada, NZ and the US. Their function, according to the Government Communications Security Bureau (who operate the NZ base) is “to intercept transmissions from communications satellites and to decrypt and process the signals”.

These bases operate software that searches through intercepted communications for key words that have been programmed in by the spy agencies. These intercepted communications are then sent straight to the National Security Agency in the US to be processed.

So this network of bases provides the US with the capacity to intercept most of the worlds’ communications. Information is provided to the New Zealand government but the primary function of the base is to operate as part of the United States’ global network.

This raises the question of why it cost New Zealand taxpayers millions to pay for the construction and operation of this US base. Perhaps it is because we are the equivalent of a bum flannel to these fucking c**ts.

Now the base was built during the cold war so its original justification was to protect us from the Soviets. Their empire collapsed only two years after it was built so now it’s there to protect us from terrorists. There is always an enemy my friends and you NEVER see him.

The thing that everybody has to remember is that it is YOUR communications that are being intercepted here. Of course the justification is that it is to keep you safe and you have nothing to worry about if you are not doing anything wrong. But! Let’s just say that you are pissed off at the government for say….I don’t know……deciding to mine the Coromandel and Great Barrier Island. You have a pissed off yarn or send a pissed off anti government email. Whoopsie, now you’ve come to the government’s attention as a potential “domestic terrorist.” Just look at the American ‘No Fly List’, there are over 1 million people on that list. Are they all potential terrorists?? No of course not.

Here is a succinct explanation put out by the government for how this base is going to protect you from the terrorist.

Does that make you laugh and insult your intelligence at the same time? I bet the cellphone coverage in Afghanistan is really reliable. No XT network problems over there.

So the justification for the base is to provide intelligence to the US and its allies for the GLOBAL WAR ON TERROR. Hence the intelligence is being used in Iraq, Afghanistan and other theatres.

Everybody knows the war in Iraq is entirely illegal, and those who have done their homework on Al-Qaeda and the Taleban will also know the war in Afghanistan is illegal. They’re about to start another illegal war in Iran. So with that in mind, the Waihopai Three are heros. In my mind they are the equivalent of the superstar who threw his shoes at Bush.

The impact on America’s global war machine was miniscule, but these guys have managed to shine the spotlight on a very dark place. They have raised the issue of our involvement in America’s illegal wars into the public arena. Illegal wars in which we are very much complicit and not a passive player as our government would have us believe.

I sincerely hope that more people in NZ find the courage to make such a stand against these war mongers. The jury in Wellington had the chance to listen to these men explain their actions and then they found them innocent, even though they admitted causing the damage. That fact along should speak volumes and shows there is still hope, although not of the false Obama variety.

thanks for a decent read. few people understand that the reason they got off is similar to the reason you can shoot a burglar in your house. burglary is a illegal. the war in iraq has been deemed by many to be illegal… hence, an act that would normally be illegal (shooting a burglar) is ok because it is in defense of yourself or others. enough with the stupid ‘blowing up an abortion clinic’ comparisons.
