Courtney Sanders is the brains and drive behind an exciting new online community – Always | Sometimes | Anytime – which launched today. She is also nice enough to take a few minutes to answer my questions… So please, enjoy!

SGGW. How did you develop the concept for Always | Sometimes | Anytime?
CS. I moved to Auckland and had a short tenure as an Editor of a print magazine before it went, like so many others, into liquidation. From my short time in the job though I met a huge amount of creatives, both here and in Australia, who were producing this amazing work but were struggling to get exposure for it. I wanted to create a platform where this work could get seen, and an online, magazine-style site just seemed right. So the three sections are representative of news, blog and unique content: from the quick, easily accessible stuff through to the meaty stuff you have to think about.
SGGW. Tell us a little something about the ASA crew…
CS. The ASA crew was born much the same way as the concept – we grew into this idea together! I had worked with my design guru Sam on another publication and knew he was the perfect person to turn the concepts in my head into beautiful design reality (always much better than I had ever envisaged). Our stylists and writers are people whose work I have always admired – whatever medium they’re working in it’s always unique, quirky and honest – and who had a similar passion to present a new angle on cultural creativity to New Zealand and Australia.

SGGW. Who/what would you most want to be from this list:
a) Courteney Cox
b) Courtney Walsh
c) Courtney Love
d) Caught Knee-ing your ex in the balls
e) Court-side at a Lakers game
f) Bryce Courtenay
CS. My dad would want me to say Courtney Walsh – his name brings back nostalgic memories of watching cricket in Dunedin years ago! None of the above really appeal, BUT, I would love to see Courtney Love caught knee-ing her ex in the balls. Wouldn’t this solve a whole lot of controversy surrounding Kurt Cobain’s death? She totally did it.
SGGW. Dream job?
CS. Basically what I’m doing right now! Working with a bunch of similarly minded pals to create something we are proud of and want to put out into the world. You know, just offering a unique perspective, trying to navigate this crazy Gen-Y world we live in, and express our experiences in a creative way. I think my second calling lies in marine-biology though – dolphins and octopii are totally my favourite animals. Have you seen The Cove? Apparently dolphins could be smarter than humans, we just haven’t developed a way to communicate with them where they can prove it. THINK ABOUT THAT!

SGGW. Who would you rather pash – Christian Slater or a young Jack Nicholson?
CS. Ooo, this is a toughie. As a rule I’m attracted to older men in positions of power, so that would led me towards Jack Nicholson (particularly in The Departed, hot damn). On the flipside I am obsessed with Heathers and the idea of playing Winona Ryder to a schizophrenic Christian Slater who wants to destroy ‘cool’ kids everywhere does have it’s appeal. I’m torn! Both?
SGGW. What’s the worst thing about fashion in NZ?
CS. Lack of community. If people worked together rather than against each other we could be producing work that is even better than it is now.
SGGW. And the best?
CS. That we actually rule! There is so much talent, from designers to stylists to photographers to journalists. The quality and quantity of work coming out of this country is exceptional, and we’re only getting stronger. Onwards and upwards I say!
SGGW. How do people get involved with or support ASA?
CS. Email me telling me why they want to get onboard: editor@alwayssometimesanytime.com
SGGW. Finish the sentence: Master Mouse Patrol…
CS. Master Mouse Patrol simultaneously makes me laugh and teaches me stuff. That’s the best combo ever. Thank you!
