Embark on a collaborative affair: M.A.C & Marcel Wanders

Hitting stores round about now is the latest M.A.C collaboration, which in my humble opinion is their most stylish and covetable yet.

This time around the make up masters have collaborated with renowned architecture and interior designer, Marcel Wanders to create some incredible collectibles as part of their luxe aline. This line usually consists of higher-priced, more luxury themed designs and products with too die for packaging, and this line up is no exception.

Marcel Wanders is a native of the Netherlands and as a designer has become quite legendary because of his keen sense of detail and luxury. A right clever clogs (pardon the Dutch pun) he has been the architect behind some very important government embassies globally but is mainly an interior designer who has partnered with the likes of Target, Puma and Swarovski, to name but a few. These partnerships allowed for easy access to more affordable versions of Wanders’ renowned work. Wanders was also one of the first designers to design for the Dutch ‘conceptual design’ company called Droog. This brand has stores in some of the high-end, metropolitan cities you can think of around the world, but still, it remains very selective and incredibly high-end. The pieces Wanders and Droog create are considered art, so it goes without saying that some of these pieces have been featured in world famous museums and galleries and have really taken his name to the world.

But on to the range, his first foray into the world of cosmetics. Both beauty and design sophisticates will be bonkers for these limited-edition lipsticks, glosses, Sheer Mystery Powder, Air of Style Scent Concentrate and his signature brush and clutch creations, not least of all for their arresting packaging – fine collectors’ items all! The rich palette is inspired by 17th Century Flemish painting, and particularly Vermeer’s – a la “Girl With a Pearl Earring” – and the idea of an artist painting a portrait, and falling in love. “ My picks of the bunch are the Gesina lippy (a creamy red with slight pinkish undertones), the False Lashes mascara in False Black and the incredible brush – a rather fabulous, tarted up version of the popular M.A.C 187 brush. Any of these would make brilliant presents for those that love beautiful makeup and great design, and are almost too gorgeous to use! Love that.
