I don’t think a $5 bet has ever meant so much to a human being before. It’s not the fact I get some money, that’s happened once or twice. It’s not the fact that we hadn’t beaten Australia in a test in farkin ages, but that certainly added to it. There’s lots to it. I’ll try explain.
It’s seeing celebrations like this…
It’s because Ian Healy said that New Zealand had no chance defending 240 and that even 350 wouldn’t be enough against this Aussie team. It’s the fact that the Channel 9 graphics team intentionally labelled Doug Bracewell “Right Arm Medium”. It’s the fact the commentators talked about “Tim Boult” and the New Zealand Captain “Ross Turner”. It’s the fact that James Pattinson dished out so much lip. It’s the fact the Aussies in the pub were yelling out things like “turn off the tele” and “not the farkin’ Kiwis” when the wickets began to tumble.
It is the reward for years and years of loyal support. I know plenty of others out there who will be lapping this up as well. Good on ya fellas, you deserve this for believing in the boys. And boy do the Black Caps deserve it. They showed enormous character to win.
Here is my favourite moment from the test. Big Doug Bracewell shows Michael Clarke what a real tattoo sleeve looks like. He also removes his off stump with a peach of a delivery. Note the devil sign celebration – pure genius.

At various points in the test there was these bets placed on Australia: $10,000 at $1.06, $9,600 bet at $1.92, a $7,000 bet at $1.57, and a $7,000 bet at $1.45.
Though they did have to pay out your $35 so the bookies wont be too happy.
